Architecture

Designed by the atelier dEMM arquitectura, won the prestigious international architecture award '*Leaf Awards*' in London. The winning project was part of a shortlist of 47 finalists from around the world in the 'young architect of the year' category.

Location:

Next to the Garden of passeio Alegre, Católica Bussiness School, Oporto British School, Serralves Park, Praça do Império, Praia do Carneiro.

'This public garden with an essentially romantic character corresponds to one of the most unique green spaces in the city of Porto. With about 41 000 m2, it is lined by the riverside by a Alameda de Palmeiras das Canarias classified as public interest.
A number of high-value architectural elements coexist side by side with the lush grove where the Norfolk Pine and the metrosideros stand out.
It develops geometrically along a central axis, punctuated by several works such as the two Obelisks of Nasoni, coming from Quinta da Prelada and National Monument, or public toilets, built in 1910, decorated with Art Nova tiles and English dishes.'

'The origin of the Serralves Park dates back to 1923 when Carlos Alberto Cabral, 2nd Count of Vizela, inherits Quinta do Lordelo, the family's summer property to Rua de Serralves (then on the outskirts of Porto), and its history is divided into three moments: the traces of the late 19th century garden of Quinta do Lordelo and Quinta do Mata-Sete, Jacques Gréber's garden for the House of Serralves, and the landscape of the Museum of Contemporary Art.
Probably designed by one of the city's life-goers, and inspired by the late-eight-hundred-year-old Victorian models, the garden of Quinta do Lordelo developed at the back of the house with flower beds of organic shapes enriched by ornamental species.'
